Clubs and Communities supports young people and their communities to plan, raise funds, create, develop and improve facilities such as a new youth shelter, a youth club, play equipment, a renovation project or a lasting legacy.

Through good communication and by bringing better understanding, the Clubs and Communities Team’s experience can help galvanise the whole community – to talk discuss, debate, formulate a plan and make decisions.

RecVamp in Porlock, young people, supported by the Park committee have taken on the task of restoring the play equipment in the park. With a successful bid to the O2 Think Big fund, they have bought materials and are cleaning, removing rust and repainting the play equipment. Check out their progress here

After the initial cleaning, work progresses with final painting. Good to see everyone is equipped with suitable protective clothing. When it was finished, there was an Events Day with cakes and the Active Futures team came along to do some "slack lining"

In Stogursey the charity is currently supporting young people to work with the parish council to develop a BMX track and to help find match funding. The group meets outside the village hall every Wednesday night between 7.15 and 8.30pm.

All young people aged 11 and above can come along.

In Stoke-sub-Hamdon, supported by the local PCSO, Somerset Rural Youth Project has been working for the last 18 months, trying to engage with young people who are involved in petty crime and anti-social behaviour. Young people were involved in some outdoor activities in local woods, shelter building and starting a camp fire without the help of fire lighters. Then they toasted marshmallows and sausages.
